The paintings
of E. Peter Darvas combine a wonderful versatility with brilliant
expressiveness and flawless technical quality. His paintings deal
with an ever-changing variety of subjects depicted in a distinctive
impressionistic style. Utilizing bold, spontaneous strokes with
a mastery of color, light, and texture, his canvases are alive
with reality and expression, yet never appear belabored or meticulous.
Darvas works
with watercolor, acrylics, and serigraphs; he also sculpts. However,
his recent dedication is to the magnificent large oil canvases
reflective of his Southwestern artistic heritage and frequent
visits to Mexico, the Caribbean islands and the Mediterranean
coast. His career as a professional artist spans some thirty years
beginning with his first one-man show at age 16. Since then, Darvas
has had 60 major exhibitions throughout the United States and
abroad. He has been featured in Southwest Art and Artists
of the Rockies magazines and is included in the books Contemporary
Western Artists and Marquis Who's Who.
Although
Darvas holds a degree in fine art from the Universoty of Texas
at Austin, he received most of his training living in Taos, New
Mexico for 10 years, traveling the Southwest, and being a part
of its rich artistic ambiance. At present he divides his time
between his two residences and studios at South Lake Tahoe, California
and San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico.
